2018-2019 Ministry Intern

Unity Lutheran Church is looking for the 2018-2019 Ministry Intern. Spend a year with us, prior to beginning your graduate level or seminary studies, gaining leadership experience in Jesus’ mission within an urban context from June 2018 through May 2019. 


  • Mentoring by the Pastor in Church Leadership, Worship Leadership, and Making Disciples
  • Mentoring by the Director of Outreach & Discipleship in leading Unity Outreach Ministries including Unity Community Soup Kitchen, Active Adult Center, Unity Clothing Closet and God’s Help Food Pantry
  • Mentoring by the Director of Operations & Ministry in Financial Management, Facility Management, and Ministry Coordination

Service Experience:

  • Opportunity to use your gifts for involvement in dynamic worship, church ministries and community outreach
  • Opportunities for serving homeless, hungry, impoverished, lonely and elderly populations in an urban setting
  • Opportunities for serving with Divine Intervention, an innovative prayer vigil ministry with the homeless, providing a warm place to sleep December through March


  • Participation in a welcoming, caring community of disciples to support personal needs throughout the year
  • A year of discernment for future plans
  • An opportunity for your relationship with God to be renewed, strengthened, and constantly changed by seeing Jesus working in the world every day
  • Growing in your ability to share your faith stories in a changing culture


  • A $15,000 scholarship for seminary or graduate studies in any academic field
  • Assistance in securing housing, and a living stipend for personal expenses during the internship is available for up to $5,000

How To Apply

Submit the following information by January 31, 2018.

1) Cover Letter-explaining why you believe you are called to intern at Unity Lutheran Church.
2) Resume-including education, job experience, volunteer and ministry experience and specal gifts.
3) Three Reference Letters-reference letters from your current pastor, an employer, and a professor or mentor figure.
4) Responses to the following questions-answer the questions found below in paragraph form.

  • What are some specific interests or talents God has provided you with and how do/can you see them in your ministry?
  • What things do you know God has called you to?
  • What leadership roles have you held? What administrative/management skills do you have?
  • What stands out as the biggest reason you would like to be the next Ministry Intern at Unity and what hopes and expectations do you have for yourself during the Ministry Internship?
  • Give one example as how you have seen Jesus this week.
